Lou Betancourt
Founder and Principal
Lou has more than 30 years of direct-response marketing, digital-marketing and publishing experience in both B2B and B2C environments.
Lou also has more than 10 years of advertising agency experience. He started his career as a media planner and buyer at Young & Rubicam, Inc., the second largest advertising agency in the world. He was promoted to account management and he worked on the IBM Office Products Division and IBM Instruments.
From there he moved to a smaller advertising agency in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida -- Steve Walker & Associates. SWA was the second largest advertising agency in Florida. At SWA he worked as Account Supervisor and he was also the Director of Direct Marketing for all of the agency's accounts. The agency handled blue-chip accounts. The agency accounts included: Toyota, Hino Trucks, Marriott Hotels, Sound Advice, First Nationwide Savings, Budget Car Rental, Chase & Sandborn Coffee, IHOP and many others.
After 10 years in the advertising industry, he redirected his career toward publishing. Initially, he worked at a B2B publisher serving the non-profit and foundation communities -- The Taft Group. Taft published newsletters and directories that identified sources of grants and funding opportunities. Some of the publications included: The Non-Profit Executive, Foundation Giving Watch, Corporate Giving Watch and many other resources and books. In this role I served as V.P. of Marketing. Subscriptions were direct-mail sold and they were also sold through a consultative telephone sales team.
From there he moved to an energy publisher that published The Oil Daily and Natural Gas Week. These were high-priced subscription services that were sold via direct mail, trade advertising and consultative telephone sales.
In 1992 he moved to a financial publisher that published Louis Rukeyser's Wall Street. Louis Rukeyser was the host of Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser, a show that aired on PBS every Friday night for more than 30 years. In this role he served as V.P. of Marketing where he was responsible for subscription sales and renewals. He mailed 40 to 50 million pieces of direct mail every year. He was also responsible for the largest investment conference which drew more then 10,000 attendees.
In 2001 he co-founded StreetAuthority.com. StreetAuthority is a financial publisher serving the self-directed investor and money managers. StreetAuthority researched and analyzed the markets and provided readers with analysis. StreetAuthority published: High-Yield Investing, Top Stock Advisor, Scarcity and Real Wealth, Maximum Profit, Extreme Tech Profits, Half-Prices Stocks, Contrarian Investing, ETF Authority, Income Trading, Swing Trading and many others investing advisories.
In addition to StreetAuthority.com He also launched and published: ProfitableTrading.com, TopStockAdvisors.com, InvestingAnswers.com. The financial publishing business was sold in 2019.
